Growing up as a kid in the 1980’s and watching sports on TV there was always this one man that stood out to me, Coach John Thompson of Georgetown. I always remembered his stature. A big man with a bold voice. You would watch the games on TV as he paced up and down the sideline with a towel on his shoulder and you didn’t have to question that he meant business.
Back in 2001 I went to Las Vegas with a couple of my coaching buddies. They were attending a Coaching Clinic and Coach Thompson was one of the speakers. This was long before Social Media or iPhones and I did not get a chance to take a selfie with him. I did get a chance to shake his hand and say hello. That made my trip! I love basketball and he is one those men that I looked up too. So, may you rest easy coach and say hello to my mom.
